October 21, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-69) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) announced they secured $32.267 million in grant and loan funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to assist with two major municipal authority projects. Out of this allotment, just over $27.59 million is deemed a grant.
Conemaugh Township Municipal Authority is receiving $19.267 million, with $14.597 million of that in grant funding, to support its ongoing water system improvements project. Installation will include approximately 44,000 linear feet of water main line; a new supervisory control and data acquisition/telemetry system for 20 facilities within the distribution system; five district metering vaults; a new pressure reducing vault along Keafer Hill Road; and replacement of the pressure reducing vault located along Route 403 in Holsopple.
PENNVEST awarded the remaining $13 million grant to the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Somerset for a phase of its sewer system improvements project. This entails replacing or repairing 22,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer line, 132 sanitary sewer manholes and 10,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer lateral line, as well as installing 484 sewer inspection ports. Illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system will be relocated to the new storm water infrastructure.
“Intense advocacy efforts, strong partnerships and an unwavering commitment to communities are needed to secure major funding for Somerset County – which I am proud to have achieved,” said Metzgar. By updating and maintaining these water and sewer systems, communities will grow and experience a better quality of life.”
“Reliable water and sewer infrastructure is essential to protecting public health and ensuring the well-being of our families for years to come,” Stefano said. “I’m proud to see this funding support critical improvements that will modernize these systems, reduce waste and improve service reliability to better serve Somerset County.”
Founded in 1988, PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm water and wastewater projects.
