Metzgar Commemorates Milestone Achievement, Highlights Importance of Local Businesses

February 20, 2026

HARRISBURG – A steadfast advocate for economic growth and job creation, Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset) was joined today by the community for a ribbon cutting to recognize Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace for more than 20 years of success in the area.

“Kongsberg’s investment into our region has provided great benefit to our communities and nation through stable family-sustaining jobs,” said Metzgar. “This is a rewarding operation that employs Somerset County residents to help our brave men and women defend the greatest country in the world. When companies choose to conduct business in the Commonwealth, we all win. Congratulations, Kongsberg, on reaching this milestone achievement.”

In 2005, Kongsberg opened a small office in Johnstown and has since turned into a manufacturing facility that delivers more than 20,000 Remote Weapons Stations and over 100 remote turrets to support U.S. national defense and military operations. Cementing its status as the company’s largest production site outside of Norway, the site employs more than 200 Pennsylvanians and partners with two Somerset businesses, Leiss Tool and Die and Augustine Die and Mold, Inc., to increase manufacturing.

As expansion continues, Kongsberg is adding more than 30,700 square feet of new manufacturing space and more than 12,400 square feet of additional office space as it prepares to produce turrets for the ACV-30 program for the United States Marine Corps.
