Metzgar Honors Somerset County Resident with House of Representatives Citation

SOMERSET – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset) recently presented Roy Pletcher, a long-time resident of Somerset County, with a special House of Representatives citation in recognition of the remarkable milestone of celebrating his 100th birthday.

Pletcher, a native of Scullton, is a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army from 1943-45. He and his wife, Imojean, were married 67 years before her passing in July 2014. They raised a family of 10 children, including two sets of twins: Donna, Carl, Dave, Terry, Dick, Gordon (deceased), Lorraine and Dewayne (twins), and Dan and Dale (twins). Pletcher also has 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pletcher joined with his brother-in-law, Edward King, to form Pletcher and King Contractors, a partnership that lasted over 30 years. Pletcher is a lifelong member of the Scullton Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, having been one of the founding fathers of the church. He loves reminiscing about his time spent hunting and fishing with family and friends and is a long-time member of the Scullton Rod and Gun Club. Pletcher, who currently resides at the Patriot Village in Somerset, enjoyed gardening, growing fruit trees and harvesting honey from his bee hives.

During the presentation, Metzgar praised Pletcher for his contributions to the community and his exceptional legacy, emphasizing the importance of reaching such a significant age while continuing to serve as an inspiration to others.

“Reaching the milestone of 100 years is a testament to Roy's strength, wisdom and dedication to his community,” said Metzgar. “His life serves as a shining example for all of us, and it’s a privilege to honor him with this citation. As a World War II veteran, Roy has been an integral part of our community and country as he displayed his courage and dedication to protecting our freedoms. It’s an honor to celebrate this incredible achievement alongside him.”
