Metzgar Appointed Chairman of House Liquor Control Committee
March 25, 2021
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) was today appointed by House Speaker Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) to serve as chairman of the House Liquor Control Committee for the 2021-22 Legislative Session.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman of this committee,” said Metzgar. “This position comes with great responsibility, and I look forward to working to further benefit the people of Pennsylvania.”
The Liquor Control Committee oversees the manufacturing and sale of alcohol in Pennsylvania via the Pennsylvania Liquor Code, as well as issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses. In addition to its responsibilities regarding legislation, the committee has oversight of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
The House Liquor Control Committee was previously chaired by Rep. Jeff Pyle (R-Armstrong/Butler/Indiana), who recently retired from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives due to ongoing health concerns. A special election will be held to fill Pyle’s seat on May 18.
