Shawnee Lake Being Drawn Down for Park Maintenance, Metzgar Says

September 12, 2019

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) today announced that the lake at Shawnee State Park in Bedford County will experience low water levels beginning Monday, Sept. 16. The lake will be lowered by approximately 5 feet for repairs and improvements at the swimming beach, as well as repairs to the dry hydrant at the Diehl Boat Launch.

All projects are expected to be completed by Oct. 4, at which time the lake will be re-filled as precipitation permits, while maintaining downstream flow.

“It’s important that we preserve our state parks so we can continue the many outdoor recreational activities they offer,” said Metzgar. “I thank the citizens of Bedford County for their understanding and cooperation with these projects.”

The lake will remain open to fishing and boating during this time but launching boats may be difficult and shoreline fishing may be limited. No other park facilities will be impacted by these maintenance projects.
